The machine uprising is coming, and it’s not a matter of if, but when. Apparently, one of the first places they’re taking over is everyone’s favorite place to get a burger at 2 am: McDonald’s.
McDonald’s has implemented self-checkout registers in one of its locations in Romeoville, Illinois. This location is particularly noteworthy because it sits right next to the McDonald’s innovation center.
So, it’s basically the guinea pig for all new Micky D’s inventions.
What’s more, innovations that are put in place in the Romeoville location don’t have a particularly short shelf life. Things can be tested there over a period of years before getting rolled out to other locations across the country.
So, if you want to use these self-checkout registers anytime soon, you have to go to Illinois.
Sooner or later, getting a minimum wage job at the register of a McDonald’s might be very difficult.
